The WBC, WBA ,and IBF super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo returns to take on the WBO super welterweight champion Brian Castaño. The winner will become the first undisputed champion at 154 lbs in the history of the four belt era. It is very difficult to completely unify a division in boxing so when the chance to do it comes about, it is great for the boxers and even greater for the fans. Life would be so much better if we could get the fights when we want them but is that the case? Absolutely not. Look around at each division, there is somebody holding a piece of the puzzle at each weight class that won’t or can’t participate in a unification bout due to the powers that be. Whether that be promoters or networks, the fight game is being ruined by a game of monopoly but that is a another story for a different time, so let’s take a look at the boxers in tonight’s main event.

Starting off with the heavy favorite Jermell Charlo (-270) who comes into this fight on a three fight win streak, all wins by KO. Charlo’s record is 34(18 KOs)-1, his only loss was a controversial one to Tony Harrison, a loss that he would avenge in violent fashion. Charlo’s powerful hands has brought him to victories over the likes of Erickson Lubin, Austin Trout, Charles Haley, and Jeison Rosario. His rise to the top of the the super welterweight division has been an explosive one, does he have enough TNT left to blow away the WBO champion?

The underdog Brian Castaño (+200) comes into this fight at 17(12 KOs)-0-1. With all due respect to all of Castaño’s prior opponents but he has not seen anybody like Jermell Charlo before. The highest level of competition came in the form of Erislandy Lara back in 2019 which resulted in a split draw. With disadvantages in height, reach, and level of competition you have to ask yourself, does this guy have a chance? The answer is no. I’m taking Charlo with a KO in the 5th round.
