Good news for fans of Alex Trebek. The legendary Canadian game show host (best known for decades hosting Jeopardy!) is reporting his battle against pancreatic cancer is proceeding as best as it can and that his memoir The Answer Is…Reflections on My Life will be released on Tuesday July 21, one day before his 80th birthday. In addition, Jeopardy! fans will get to see some of the most celebrated episodes from the series beginning on July 20.
Speaking to the New York Times, he talked about the difficult decision regarding his cancer treatment, which impacts tremendously on his quality of life. Trebek was blunt about his future plans:
“Yesterday morning my wife came to me and said, ‘How are you feeling?’ And I s aid, ‘I feel like I want to die.’ It was that bad,” he said. “There comes a time where you have to make a decision as to whether you want to continue with such a low quality of life, or whether you want to just ease yourself into the next level. It doesn’t bother me in the least.”
Like most TV shows, Jeopardy! has been shut down due to the coroanpocalypse, but starting on July 20, Jeopardy! will begin airing a number of key episodes, such as the first episode of Jeopardy! hosted by Alex, the first big wins by a champion, select Celebrity Jeopardy!, and other gems.
According to Variety:
The popular quiz show’s four-week series will feature 20 episodes, including the show’s 1984 premiere, which features Alex Trebek. The beloved gameshow host has been on board for all of the show’s seasons since its revival.
Each week of the series follows a theme, with the first week focusing on the show’s first decade, while the second week will be dedicated to celebrity episodes. The show’s premiere will air alongside rebroadcasts of episodes starring the first record-setting contestant and “super-champion” during the first week.
Alex Trebek has become a pop culture icon over the course of his 36 years on Jeopardy! whether it’s Will Ferrell portraying him on Saturday Night Live’s Celebrity Jeopardy! or various appearances in film and television.
According to a report at WKBW-TV , Trebek isn’t slowing down despite the side effects from his treatment. He has been taping introductions to the upcoming episodes and says doing so has energized him. His determined fight against pancreatic cancer has been inspiring and Pro Sports Extra wishes him a full recovery.
