The Philadelphia Phillies have announced that they traded utility player Scott Kingery to the Los Angeles Angels for cash considerations.
Kingery was once considered a rising star and was rewarded a six-year, $24 million contract extension in March 2018 before he had even played a Major League game.
The Phillies selected Kingery in the second round of the 2015 draft. He was named the Paul Owens Award winner in 2017 that is given to the top position player in the Phillies farm system.
Kingery played in 147 games with the Phillies in 2018. He 8 home runs with 35 RBI and .226 batting average.
In 2019, Kingery had his best season with the Phillies. He had a .258 batting average with 19 home runs and 55 RBI.
Kingery struggled mightily in 2020 hitting 3 home runs and striking out 35 times in 113 at bats with a .159 batting average.
The Phillies outrighted Kingery off their roster in 2021 and 2022. No club claimed him off waivers and he reported to the minors and played out the rest of his deal.
The 31 year-old Kingery never lived up to the high expectations that the Phillies had for him.
