Philadelphia Eagles LB Devin White said he was surprised that the coaches went with Nakobe Dean over him to start at the MIKE linebacker position, as per Jeff McLane.
Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni said that White will have a role on the team.
When asked by Eagles beat reporter Elliot Shorr-Parks about describing what his role is? White responded with, : “You’re going to have to get it from him.”
Yesterday, Eagles Defensive Coordinator, Vic Fangio, said that Nakobe Dean is the starter at MIKE linebacker.
White was inactive for Eagles opening game with a ankle injury and did not travel with the team to Brazil.
It was reported that even if White was healthy that Dean would still have started. White had taken basically all the 1st team reps at MIKE linebacker during training camp.
Fangio acknowledged yesterday that Dean had won the job during training camp. Many Eagles reporters stated that Dean was the Eagles best linebacker during training camp.
Dean and fellow off ball LB Zack Baun played well in the Eagles season opening win over the Green Bay Packers.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. White doesn’t seem happy, but Dean beat him out and has taken hold the MIKE linebacker position.
