Nick Sirianni Makes Declaration On Eagles Back Up QB Spot

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New England Patriots 14-13 in preseason game number 2 last night.

The final score doesn’t not even matter. The Eagles did not play any starters on offense and played very few on defense.

Kenny Pickett got the start at QB. The Eagles acquired him in a trade with the Steelers to back up starter Jalen Hurts.

Pickett has started both preseason games and has not looked impressive. He put up a nice statline completing11 of his 13 passes for 67 yards, but was sacked him four times and looked a little shaky.

For two straight weeks Pickett has looked like check down Charlie, with a lot short passes. He has not been able to get the ball down field.

Third string QB Tanner McKee had a impressive night. He moved the team really well, made some impressive throws and looked very decisive.

McKee, who was a sixth round pick in the 2023 draft, competed 15 of 19 passes for 140 yards and zero sacks for the game.

According to local media, McKee has been giving Pickett a good battle for the No. 2 QB spot all training camp.

I like Kenny Pickett and believe that he will be the back up. I also like Tanner McKee and think he was steal in the sixth round.

Having really good back ups at the most important position on the field is a real good situation for the Eagles. It’s rare for starting for a starting QB play every game in the NFL these days.
