The Philadelphia Phillies have placed RHP Taijuan Walker on the 15-day IL (retroactive to 6/22) with right index finger inflammation, as per the team.
To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, RHP Michael Mercado was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Walker’s last start was Friday night in the Phillies 5-4 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He gave up 3 home runs in the game.
The 31 year-old Walker has a 5.60 ERA and 3-3 record for the season. The 25 year-old Mercado will be making his big-league debut.
The Phillies have not announced whether it will be Mercado or Spencer Turnbull to take Walker’s turn in the rotation.
