People love them some trade rumors and lists that they can argue about so let’s give you both. Here are 5 Trades that could make LeBron James a very happy man.
#5 Dennis Smith Jr
I know I know, the Lakers are already overflowing with young guards, but with Luka Donic flourishing, the Mavs seem to have already given up on their first-round pick from one season prior.
Last season DSJ was the one bright light in an otherwise dismal season for the Mavs and this year while having significantly less of the ball in his hands, he has improved his field goal percentage and three-point percentage.
The Mavs are shopping him on the open market and if he’s available at a cheap price, while still on his rookie deal for 1 or 2 more years (depending on a team option), the Lakers should pounce.
#4 Bradley Beal
From one guard being rumored to be leaving his home to another. The Washington Wizards experiment of trying to get John Wall and Braley Beal to like each other has officially failed for the 4th season in a row and it seems like they are finally going to blow it up.
Beal can be a significant player on a title contender in the next couple of years so if he is available the Lakers should definitely give the Wizards a ring.
#3 Trade Away Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
This one might seem a little strange but KCP is 6th in minutes played among Lakers guards and is older than four of them, Rondo being the exclusion. With that being said he is still young (25) and has shown potential to be a very good NBA player.
He is currently on a one year deal and it is unlikely the Lakers would look to resign him. They should try to ship him off soon for some picks and couple those in a deal for someone else later down this list.
#2 Frank Ntilikina
Yup, another young guard. This one brings something different to the table, the ability to be a lockdown defender. Now maybe this wouldn’t make LeBron the happiest after he and Ntilikina got into it a little the first time they matched up last season, but I think LeBron knows what an asset Frank could be to the Lakers.
The Knicks have not been happy with the Ntilikina’s growth offensively with guys like Allonzo Trier and Damyean Dotson logging more minutes for the Knicks. Add in the fact that Phil Jackson drafted him right before being shown the door by James Dolan and you have a recipe for picking up a 20-year-old who can defend almost any position, at a fraction of what he’s worth.
#1 Anthony Davis
We all saw this one coming obviously. Anthony Davis has been rumored to LA, on and off, for about 2 years now. He is a star and him and LeBron together, instantly makes the Lakers a contender. AD is a free agent in the summer though, and the Lakers not wanting to trade their entire future away, makes navigating this trade very interesting.
My guess is the Lakers know exactly what it will take to get him. Say, 2 first round picks, Ingram, Lonzo, and Caldwell-Pope. The Lakers would obviously rather keep those guys (and picks), and sign AD in the offseason. That along with the Warriors probably having to get rid of at least one of their core players lines up the Lakers perfectly to take back the West.
The problem is there are other teams lurking (Celtics) and if one of them come in for a deal that tickles the Pelicans fancy, the Lakers might have to unload that big package for Davis.
