Why Stephen Curry is a star player
- Updated: March 2, 2013
Against the New York Knicks on February 27th, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry proved to us that he was the real deal by posting 54 points on 18-28 shooting, going 11-13 from behind the arc, as well as accruing seven assists and six rebounds. His eleven three pointers are a franchise record for the Warriors, as well as second highest three point total of all time. His 54 points were the highest scored by any player this season. Although the Warriors lost the game, Curry emerged a victor. He proved he is a truly special shooter, as well as an exceptional passer and drive the lane to boot. Curry takes after his father, former sharpshooter Dell Curry. Although Curry is clearly more talented, it’s obvious where he gets his shooting from.
Before this year, many considered Stephen Curry to be a talented but injury prone player. Although it was a bit unfair to call him injury prone, as last year was his the only season he spent the majority of injured, many still called him fragile. This year, Curry has played in 54 games, and has shed his oft-injured label, and replaced it with a new label, star. Curry is averaging 21.9 points per game, 6.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds, splendid all around numbers. He’s proving he is a legitimate star in this league and a superb point guard, one worthy to lead a team.
Let’s remember that the Warriors last year struggled greatly without Curry. Last year, the Warriors went 23-45 and out of the playoffs. This year, with Curry healthy, the Warriors are sitting at 6th in an immensely competitive western conference, with a record of 33-25, a drastic change in one year. The difference is none other than the stellar play of Curry, who with the help of his supporting cast of David Lee and Klay Thompson, has turned the Warriors into the surprise team of the year.
