Warriors stumble in race for history

With the NBA regular season only a few games from being over the Golden State Warriors still looked like they were poised to make history by being the first team to reach seventy-three wins in a season (72 was record set by 1996 Bulls). The Warriors were at sixty-nine wins and still had five games to go and even though two of those were against the second placed San Antonio Spurs, but the Warriors only had to take one of the games against the Spurs. Until they blew a double digit lead against the Minnesota Timber-wolves that marked the Warriors second straight home loss. This might end up being troublesome if the Warriors want to reach seventy-three wins because now they will have to win all of their last four games, and two of those games are against a tough Spurs team that still has a mathematical chance to win the Western Conference (Spurs 3.5 games back with 4 to go). The Warriors will face the Spurs tomorrow and after blowing a double digit lead at home to a shoddy Timber wolves team it is hard to envision them winning out in these final four games and getting the record. Steve Kurr, the Warriors coach, will walk out with his head held high either way because he just so happened to be apart of that 1996 Bulls team that set the record at 72 and the Warriors will likely head into the postseason favorites to win it all again. The Warriors have a tough road ahead of them if they want to break the single season win record, but if any team could do it it’d be the Warriors, right? Besides what is the chance that Stephen Curry will shoot seven of twenty five from the field again and the splash brothers (Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson) will combine for a dismal eight of twenty-five from behind the arc. Even if the Warriors do not get this record there really is very little for concern because they will still be favorites to repeat as NBA champions again, and isn’t that what this is all really about?Golden State Warriors v New York Knicks
