Vlad Seeks Minor League Deal
- Updated: March 4, 2013
Sixteen year veteran Vladimir Guerrero is looking to sign a minor league contract. The former American League MVP is attempting to make a comeback. Teams that have been in contact with Guerrero include the Twins and Yankees. The Yankees’ GM Brian Cashman has made it clear that the Yankees are not interested in signing the 9x All-Star.
The last time Guerrero was seen in a major league uniform was back in 2011 with the Baltimore Orioles. He became the all-time MLB hits leader among Dominican-born players when he singled off Josh Beckett in the sixth inning of a 6–3 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Camden Yards on September 26, 2011. In that season with the Orioles he hit .290 with 163 extra base hits, staggering numbers for anyone, nonetheless a 36 year-old.
Over the coarse of his career, Vladimir Alvino Guerrero has hit almost 500 home runs, driven in nearly 1,500 runs, and stolen 181 bases. He has won 8 silver sluggers and hit in the 30-30 club twice. Guerrero also won the Home Run Derby in 2007. He has played for the Montreal Expos, Angels, Rangers, and Orioles.
