Vermont Lawmaker Proposes Bill That Could Make Cell Phone Use Illegal For People Under the Age of 21

This would probably not go over well.

According to various news stories across social media such as one from NBC4i in Columbus, Ohio, Senator John Rodgers introduced a bill to the Vermont Senate that could potentially make usage of cell phones for citizens under the age of 21, illegal.

Sen. John Rodgers (VT)

If the bill is passed, the use of the cell phone could lead that one person to a misdemeanor charge, with the punishment ranging from either a year behind bars, a $1,000 fine, or maybe both.

The legislation states that citizens under the age of 21 have been linked to rise in significant numbers in car crashes, suicides, shootings, and even terrorism.

Rodgers, a Democrat, said he proposed the bill to make a point towards everyone of all ages. He also believes that owning a cell phone is as, or even more dangerous than owning guns.

“I have no delusions that it’s going to pass,” Rodgers said. “I wouldn’t probably vote for it myself.”
