Cleveland Cavaliers: Tristan Thompson May Soon Sign Qualifying Offer

Cleveland Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson is no closer to singing a deal leading more and more people to believe everyday that Thompson will give in and take the qualifying offer.

According to Cleveland Plain Dealer writer Terry Pluto Thompson is still talking to the Cavaliers about a new deal, but no agreement is imminent at this point.

Worst case scenario for Thompson, the 24-year-old power forward could just accept the $6.8 million qualifying offer from Cleveland.

Of course, on the other side of things, it could work well for him, he’ll become an unrestricted free agent next offseason, meaning he could look for other places to get a huge pay day without worrying that Cleveland will match the offer.

Thompson played a huge role for Cleveland last year, especially during the playoffs where he averaged nine points ten rebounds and filled up key minutes left empty by Kevin Love’s shoulder injury in the first round against the Celtics.

Thompson also played notably well in the regular season averaging eight points and eight rebounding whilst doing all the “dirty work” inside for Cleveland

Lebron James has voiced his support for the Texas stand-out, heavily advocating to Cleveland that if they want to keep him long term they need to lock up the fourth overall draft pick.

Tristan Thompson was reportedly close to singing a five-year $80 million dollar deal, but his camp eventually pushed for that extra five million, talks of been in sputters ever since.

James spoke on both the situations of Thompson and shooting guard J.R. Smith “We still got to re-sign Tristan,” “Hopefully we can bring back J.R. as well and see if there’s some other free agents out there that’d love to come here and play if we’re able to do that. Right now, we’ve been doing so far, so good.”
