Tony Parker Out For 4 Weeks
Tony Parker’s MVP caliber season has hit a roadblock as the Spurs star point guard will miss approximately 4 weeks with ¬† a second degree ankle sprain. Spurs head coach, Gregg Popovich, said that Parker would be out for, “a while”. Parker has elevated his games to new heights this season and his play has lifted the Spurs to the best record in the NBA once again, with a 46-14 record. The Spurs will most certainly miss Parker’s impact on the court, as he was not only their best player but also their floor general, keeping the Spurs’ offense running silky smooth. With Parker out of the equation the Spurs are sure to see a drop off and this gives other teams in the West a chance to shine.
The West is an incredibly¬†competitive conference and if the Spurs falter for even a few games, which they might without Parker, that first seed could be snatched from under them. ¬†Both the Thunder and the Clippers are more than ready to pounce on the Spurs’ spot. OKC is only three games back and if OKC can win the upcoming meeting between the two teams on March 11th, it won’t bode well for the Spurs. They may have to fight an uphill battle to retain their first seed. ¬†The Spurs aren’t expected to completely fall off. They will still be a solid team, but they won’t be the elite team that we know them as with Parker on the floor.
Fortunately for the Spurs their schedule is manageable. Their toughest games come against the Thunder, Nuggets, Bulls, Warriors and Rockets, with a great deal of these games being played in the AT&T Center in San Antonio. The  rest of the games on the schedule are against poor or average teams that the Spurs could beat handily even without Parker on the court. The Spurs will have to prove that they can win without a crucial part of their team. Tony Parker runs the offense to perfection and his enhanced skills have helped the Spurs become the dominant force they are. Despite Parker being an important piece of the puzzle, Coach Popovich is the reigning coach of the year, and Spurs fans should take solace in knowing that he can draw up a plan to keep the Spurs afloat without their MVP Candidate.
