The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are planning to release defensive tackle Gerald McCoy after nine seasons with the organization.
First reported from ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Dov Kleiman on Twitter, the Bucs released McCoy, because the team made a decision on not paying his $13 million salary this season.

The six-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro selection wraps his Tampa Bay career with 54.5 sacks, 21 pass deflections, and six forced fumbles.
Schefter said in a tweet that McCoy is considering on signing with a playoff contending team. He also mentions New England and Cleveland are one of a few strong suitors for McCoy.

McCoy’s release leaves the third-overall pick and the second-overall pick from 2010, in fellow defensive tackle Ndamokung Suh, as two of the best remaining free agents left on the market.
