The NBA Playoffs this year so far have not disappointed with some thrilling moments. Whether it was one of Blake Griffin’s crazy dunks against the Grizzlies or Kevin Durant’s buzzer beater against the Mavericks the playoffs have been great.
The spotlight has been the Miami Heat and The Oklahoma City Thunder this year and they are living up to expectations and positioned to sweep their opponent. The Thunder and Heat have both been playing phenomenal, but they have been overshadowing certain players in the Playoffs. Those certain players are the veteran players particularly those of the Lakers, Spurs and Celtics.
Let’s start with the Lakers. They lead their series against the Denver Nuggets 2-0 largely because of a man named Kobe Bryant. The future HOF has started his quest for his sixth ring and his ambition and determination is giving the Lakers the boost they need if they want to get anywhere close to the Finals. With Derrick Fisher now gone and Metta World Peace suspended for 7 games, Bryant has more weight to carry on him but if anyone can do it the “Black Mamba” can.
Now with the San Antonio Spurs they are in a similar situation as the Spurs. They lead the Utah Jazz 2-0 in the series thanks in part to veterans Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili. While Duncan and Ginobili are not as good as they once were they are still a big part of this San Antonio team. Duncan has the “pleasure” of having to guard man Al Jefferson has done a good job so far. The main scoring option on the team is Tony Parker who has had an All-Star season, but Ginobili and Duncan provide that support the Spurs need and are the reason why they had the best reason regular season record this year.
Finally the Boston Celtics, who have a tougher opponent in their first round series with the Atlanta Hawks are tied in their series 1-1. The Celtics had an overall good season despite to rumors about Rajon Rondo on the trading block. The Celtics have 4 stars and three of them happen to be veterans. Paul Pierce is the leader of the team and can be a huge scoring option for the Celtics. Ray Allen is probably the best 3-point shooter in the game. Kevin Garnett can still play good defense and score at least 10 points a game.
When these three along with Rondo are playing well they can succeed and with the Bulls’ lost of Derrick Rose, the Celtics have a chance to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals. With all these talented veterans in the Playoffs this year, it’s hard to watch and see just how much they still have in the tank.
