Redskins Arranging TE Chris Cooley To Come Back To The Team
- Updated: October 21, 2012
The Washington Redskins are possibly re-signing Chris Cooley as TE, and discussed this topic a few weeks ago. General manager Bruce Allen made these remarks Friday at the national press Club. Allen told reporters “Yes, Absolutely the door is still open, we have a meeting next week”.
The Redskins released Cooley August 28th, even though he was the franchise leader in catches by a tight end. He came off the 2011 season with only 8 catches, and on the injured reserve list after a broken finger, and ailing knee, but he said during practice that the knee felt healthy and he believed it was improving.
Coach Mike Shanahan said that after the Redskins released Cooley, he attempted starting contracts with other NFL teams. However, Allen didn’t completely rule out resigning Cooley to the team, they only let him go for a while, and is being resigned. Cooley was unsure of what he wanted to do, so he took some time to think over the matter. When Cooley was reached Friday morning, he was unaware of the meeting that had been scheduled for next week. Cooley did say one thing, that he is definitely not retiring. Cooley said that he still wanted to play for the Redskins, so he’s contemplating the topic now. Cooley is currently practicing with the Redskins, and things look promising for the TE.
