October 11th marked the release date of Migos front man Quavo’s debut solo album, QUAVO HUNCHO. A 19-song album packed with features from the likes of 21 Savage, Drake, Saweetie, Madonna, Cardi B, Lil Baby, Normani, Davido, Kid Cudi and fellow group members Offset and Takeoff. Despite all of the hype that usually surrounds one of the most polarizing figures in pop culture, the album was a flop to say the least.
Out of the 19 songs, just three slightly stood out to me. Shine, Lose it ft. Lil Baby, and Lost ft. Kid Cudi in no particular order, were the three best-sounding and only songs on this album that I think were up to the usual par that we as fans expect from the self-proclaimed Huncho.
This album proved one thing to me, Migos is a great group, but individually their flaws are apparent. It was definitely noticeable how much the trio compliments each other and how they all sound great in conjunction as a group but not by themselves.
Both Offset and Takeoff are expected to release debut solo albums next, and myself as well as the likes of others cannot be too hopeful for those two projects following the release of QUAVO HUNCHO.
For those of us who enjoyed Culture and Culture II, let’s hope that after the next two members of Migos drop their debut solo albums, the trio will get back together again for a possible Culture III.
