The Pittsburgh Penguins were able to beat the San Jose Sharks in a 3-2-shootout win on Sunday. Patric Hornqvist struck first only 7 minutes into the first period. Under a minute later, Chris Kunitz scored a power play goal, assisted by Sidney Crosby.

With that assist by Crosby, it gives him a 2-point cushion for the NHL Scoring Title. Crosby also came through and scored the game-winning shootout goal for the Penguins as well as David Perron to propel the Penguins to a victory.

Pittsburgh has gone on a little skid as of late, only winning 5 of the last 12 games. They were able to pull out 2 wins over the weekend, which has led them to be tied with the Islanders for second in the Metropolitan division at 95 points.

The Penguins have a game in hand on the Islanders, but the Islanders have the Penguins beat in the tie-breaker, which is record against and the Islanders are 6-3 against the Penguins.

Pittsburgh was built around offense, but it seems that offense isn’t winning games for the Penguins as they haven’t been showing that offensive prowess that people know they possess.

Yesterday’s win was a result of an overtime penalty kill. The Penguins were able to kill that power play, and they were able to carry over that intensity to the shootout.

The Penguins have looked better the past 2 games, but are still injury riddled as ever. Kris Letang is out with a concussion after being thrust into the boards by a Coyote player.

Letang was released from the hospital on Sunday, but he is going to be out for a few games with a concussion, leaving the Penguins with only 5 defenders once again. The Penguins need to find a way to get everyone healthy for the start of the playoffs, and if they don’t, it will be another early exit for the extremely talented Penguins.
