Yes. You read that right. A man that I thought was almost as much of a staple as Aaron Rodgers is leaving for greener pastures. The Packers released him earlier today, shaking up the roster after picking up Jimmy Graham, and were looking to clear up cap space.
Although Graham was a great pickup for the Packers, Jordy to me is shocking. The type of plays that Jordy made, especially on the sidelines, is second to none in the league, and the chemistry between him and Rodgers was nothing short of spectacular. Jordy will surely be missed, and after Sammy Watkins and Allen Robinson made their way to other teams, there isn’t much left on the receiver market for Green Bay.
Packers’ GM Brian Gutekunst released the following statement regarding Jordy Nelson, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter:
“We cannot thank Jordy enough for all that he has given the Green Bay Packers and our community for the past 10 years,” Gutekunst said. “He has been an exemplary professional and teammate and greatly contributed to our success. Jordy will always be a member of the Packers family and we look forward to his eventual induction into the Packers Hall of Fame. We wish Jordy, his wife Emily, and the rest of their family all the best.”
Although the move seems ridiculous, maybe there’s a signing we won’t see until later this free agency period though. However, the question remains, who can replace Jordy, if anyone? Where will Jordy end up? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
