Turns out we spoke too soon. Way too soon. The New England Patriots offensive coordinator will NOT become the new head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.
McDaniels officially withdrew his name about an hour or so ago. This comes merely hours after having an introductory press conference scheduled for the next day.
Great news for the Patriots. Horrible news for Indianapolis as their search for a new head coach forges on.
After two days of reflection, Josh McDaniels ultimately decided not to accept the Indianapolis Colts’ head-coaching job. As the story goes, it turns out that McDaniels was trying to get comfortable with the idea of taking his family out of New England and moving to Indianapolis.
McDaniels had thoroughly expressed to the Colts that he would need time to mull the decision and discuss it with his family. The more McDaniels reflected on having the opportunity to coach the Colts, the better it felt to remain in New England.
Make no mistake about it. Josh McDaniels still would like to become a head coach again at some point. However at this parricular point in time, he was not comfortable. He made the right decision.
