NHL: Vancouver Goalie Troubles Continue
- Updated: January 30, 2013
The Vancouver Canucks continue the carousel of goalie troubles naming Luongo the starting goalie for the second straight game. Many thought Vancouver solved their goalie troubles naming Cory Schneider the starting goalie before the lockout. After Schneider started the season with a 2-2 record and 11 goals against in four games. Luongo who was expected to be traded before the start of the season might earn his stay a little longer.
It will be interesting how Vancouver will proceed with their goalies and cap space. Currently the Canucks sit just under $10 million in salary with the two goalies and will face troubles when the salary cap reduces to just $60 million. Paying that much for a goalie that struggles under pressure and a goalie who hasn’t faced a full season leads to drama about which goalie will start the game.
Vancouver truly is in a rock and a hard place with this situation. Luongo has already stated he wouldn’t mind being traded but do you keep veteran status over unproven youth? That remains to be seen in this season but expect Vancouver to make a move in the off-season because Vancouver just can’t load up on talent with a multi-million dollar back up.
