A huge initiative has an approval through various owners within the National Football League, and it means big things moving forward when it comes to challenges with certain plays.

Per the report from various NFL sources, all offensive and defensive pass interference calls and non-calls can now be challenged. The specifics of this is that they can be called before the two-minute warning for each half. After that, it would need to go to the booth for resolution. This includes replay booth reviews, so some plays have the option for better calls in the future.

While some people believe this is a “champion” move, there are some with concerns about what this means for the game, as you can see from the tweets below.

For instance, KhanTalksCowboys explains, “All Offensive and Defensive pass-interference calls can be challengednow? I don’t know how I feel about this rule, it serves its pros and cons, teams will definitely have to be more wise about their challengesnow nonetheless.”

Another user, EP424242, added, “If Dee Ford wasn’t actually offsides would that be reviewable next season? Stop be reactive and be proactive @NFL. Just challenge everything.”

Eric Marturano offered another critique. “The worst thing about the NFLis how slow the game has become with stoppages/legalese/forcing you to philosophically debate what is/isn’t a catch. Reviewing penalties like this is a death knell. Only way to make it worse would be if holding was reviewable (w/o challenges).”

We’ll have to see how this goes down in the months ahead. But it’ll be interesting to see how these changes play out.
