As we get ready for this weekend’s closed beta for Mortal Kombat 11, WB Games and the developers at NetherRealm Studios have a new trailer to get us pumped. And it’s taking us back to the 90’s!

The trailer made its premiere today during Sony’s State of Play special. And in it, not only do we get a blast from the past, but three favorite characters are back!

This trailer introduces “Old Skool vs. New Skool.” In it, you see brawlers from the 90’s version of Kombat mix it up with more contemporary ones. It’s a temporal crisis that brings up interesting scenarios. But they’re bound to be fun.

On top of that, we also get the return of Jax Briggs, the robotic armed military soldier; the legendary Liu Kang and his fiery abilities; and Kung Lao, the warrior that slices and dices with his razor-tipped hat. Both contemporary and classic versions are here, along with other fighters.

The trailer is above, and it’s a lot of fun based on what we’ve seen thus far. It also ties in with the whole time travel storyline of Mortal Kombat 11. That features Kronika, a mysterious antagonist who seems to control things. At first, her intentions are to stop a corrupted Raiden. But there’s more to the picture than that, based on the actions of her right hand man, Geras.

Check out the action above and prepare for Mortal Kombat 11 when it arrives on April 23rd. It’ll be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. Also, who doesn’t love a trailer that goes to the tune of “Check Yourself”?
