What seemed to a good old-fashioned tweet exchange between the Miami Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays turned into an apology after one of the tweets had involved the late Steve Irwin.
During an interleague game over the weekend, the Marlins shown a picture captioned, “Here’s the man your third base coach, told you to worry about,” and then the Rays struck back with a tweet that said “Show the final out.”
And then a good old fashioned Twitter fight took over from there leading up to the Steve Irwin tweet.

The Marlins immediately went back on and apologized for ‘shedding light’ on the tweet.
Even after apologizing for the tweet, the organization released a team statement via Andy Slater regarding the tweet and said that it was a ‘regrettable exchange by our otherwise creative social media team.’

“This was a regrettable exchange by our otherwise creative social media team. Unfortunately, in this medium, sometimes we swing and miss, and this was definitely a miss.”

The tweets occurred after the Rays’ 7-2 win over the Marlins.
We certainly believe that the tweet could be more a compliment or tribute to the former Crocodile Hunter, but we’ll leave up to the fans and see what they think.
