Kentucky forward PJ Washington has announced that he will forgo his junior season for the 2019 NBA draft. Washington made the announcement via his Twitter account with a video on Tuesday, April 9. Following a strong freshman season, Washington developed into Kentucky’s best player this season averaging 15.2 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game to go along with being named to the All-SEC First Team.
Washington went on a tear this season as he was named a semifinalist for the Naismith National College Player of the Year award. He played an essential part in Kentucky’s success this season and helped the Wildcats make it to the Elite Eight only to fall to SEC conference rival Auburn after sweeping the Tigers in the regular season. Washington did not go down without a fight as the big man finished the game with 28 points and 13 rebounds. While he is not expected to go in the top three, expect him to be a surefire lottery pick in this summer’s NBA Draft.
