Jeff Faine “Buccaneers were right to cut me”
- Updated: July 7, 2012
Jeff Faine, a current NFL Free Agent center who last played in 2009 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had some very important statements.
“I can understand the decision. They made an investment in (free agent) Carl Nicks — looking into the future and trying to build through youth — and I think it was the right decision,” Faine told 1010 AM in Tampa, per JoeBucsFan.com. “I’m going to be playing for two, three more years, and they’re looking to build something to last.”
“I had a fantastic time. I have nothing but good things to say about this organization and how they do business,” Faine said. “I can’t be bitter. I still have years to play, and hopefully win games wherever I go.”
Faine was drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the 21st pick in the 2003 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame, and also played for the Browns for two seasons (2003-2005). Then during the 2006 draft was traded to the New Orleans Saints, in order for the Browns to acquire now Pro Bowl middle linebacker D’Qwell Jackson. Faine was a Pro Bowl alternate for the 2007 Pro Bowl behind center Olin Kreutz. On February 29, 2008, Faine signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was released by Tampa Bay on March 14, 2012.
The teams that are in need of a center currently are the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, and the Washington Redskins.
