It looks like Trent Richardson and his latest tenure with the Oakland Raiders has come to an abrupt end, per ESPN.  The Raiders have cut the former number 3 overall draft pick from 2012.

This comes in the form of the first wave of cuts that every NFL team is required to make, to trim their roster down to 75 players before Tuesday.

Richardson didn’t do much in Oakland, which is what you can pretty much say about every stop he’s made during his NFL career.

In three preseason games with the Raiders, Richardson carried the ball 15 times for 42 yards.

The Raiders running back showed up to training camp slightly overweight and  things only went downhill from there.

Oakland coach Jack Del Rio commented on Aug. 26 that if Richardson was going to make the team, he’d have to play like he did at Alabama.

“We’ve got to see some of the explosiveness that he had when he was a young man playing for the Crimson Tide,” Del Rio said.

That explosiveness never showed up in Oakland, just like it didn’t show up in Indy after the Colts traded a first-round pick to get him. Richardson’s power and speed also didn’t show up in Cleveland after the Browns made him the third overall pick in the 2012 draft.

Richardson is leaving Oakland, but he won’t be leaving empty-handed. When the running back signed in March, the Raiders gave him $600,000 in guaranteed money as part of a two-year contract.

I don’t see Richardson getting any work any time soon in his current state of play, Richardson is either going to have to go back to the drawing board, hit the weight room and the tape room or simply hang up his cleats and save his money.
