Former AL MVP, Miguel Tejada Signs with Royals
- Updated: January 2, 2013
Shortstop & former AL MVP Miguel Tejada and the Kansas City Royals have come to an agreement on a minor league contract worth one year, $1.1 million only if he makes the big leagues. Tejada won the AL MVP in 2002 with the Oakland Athletics as he produced a .308 average with thirty-four big flys, and also batting in 131 runs.
Adding the 38-year old infielder can be a huge boost of confidence going into the 2013 season, but also hoping that this addition can give their infield a bit of an improvment. Having already a young shortstop that is becoming quite an eyecatcher in Alcides Escobar, the Royals are hoping that bringing in the 15-year veteran, he can make this infield one of the scariest in the AL central. Possibly considering the switch over to second base, Tejada has a career 1.000 fielding percentage which only consists of four career games at the position.
Tejada last played in the majors in 2011 with the San Francisco Giants batting .293 with four home runs and 26 RBI’s in only 91 games with the team. The six-time all star looks to make the 2013 season a good one with a new team, & new goals saying that he feels whatever his role is with the team, he will be able to help due to being 100% healthy & ready to play baseball.
