Former NFL and Ball State University cornerback Eric Patterson died last Saturday morning after being involved a shooting in his home city of Tampa, Florida.
The former Ball State defensive back was found by police wounded after hearing a commotion inside the house.
At the time, a roommate was woken up to see an unknown suspect fleeing the scene and Patterson lying on his back.
Patterson was taken to a local hospital where later he was pronounced dead.
Patterson signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2015.
He also went on to play for the Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles (St. Louis) Rams, and the Cleveland Browns.
He recorded three total tackles in his career in the NFL.
Patterson’s former teammates and Ball State University football coaches and athletics expressed their condolences on his passing.
