Arizona Cardinals

Draft Grades For All 32 Teams

This years Draft was one of the worst in recent memory.  I believe teams got to caught up in trades and missed out on a lot of good players.  That being said here is my grades for every team in order from best to last.

  1. Bears- A+ – With their first pick they took the best MLB (Roquan Smith) in the draft and followed it up with the second best G/C (James Daniels) that fell to them in the second round.  With their third pick, they took (Anthony Miller) WR from Memphis who if you watched at all this year is as electric as they come.  Congrats Bears on building for the future now lets hope Mitch can take you there.
  2. Cardinals- A – Trading up to the ten spot to grab maybe the best if not the second best QB (Josh Rosen) in this draft and giving up little to nothing in return was huge.  In the second round getting who some thought was a first round talent at WR (Christian Kirk) who now can learn from Fitz and be a staple with Rosen for years to come.

  3. Broncos- A- – Another team that greatly benefitted from the Browns in this year’s draft by allowing the overall best player in the draft to fall to them at number 5 DE (Bradley Chubb).  They didn’t stop there though grabbing a highly touted WR (Courtland Sutton) to replace or complement the lacking WR group of last season.  After those great picks, they went on to snag RB (Royce Freeman), LB (Josey Jewell), WR (Desean Hamilton), and TE (Troy Fumagalli).  All those players have an excellent chance to contribute in 2018 on any team let alone the Broncos.
  4. Jets- B+ – Solely on the reason, they got the best fit for them and possibly the best QB (Sam Darnold) in the draft at the three spot, because well let’s face it the Browns did what the Browns do.  To be honest the rest of their draft was mediocre at best but they sealed up the most important position for years to come.
  5. Packers- B+ – Let’s just say the Packers got lucky since they drafted two CB (Jaire Alexander) (Josh Jackson) and the second was lucky to fall to them and will be better than the first.  Then they added two WR (J’Mon Moore) (Equanimeous St. Brown) that can start right away for Rodgers as great threats.  The only problem left is they still fixed none of their defensive needs, which is a lot of needs.  Getting P (JK Scott) is hilarious drafting that high, but also will be with them for at least the next ten years.

  6. Titans- B+ – Titans were smart and loaded up on defensive talent like LB (Rashaan Evans) and DE/OLB (Harold Landry) who both had first-round talent Landry just fell off a bit this past season.  Also getting QB (Luke Falk) that late in the draft as a viable backup, he was picked in the Tom Brady slot.  Faulk had a great college career and Mariota seems to get hurt a lot look to see him getting some playing time in the near future.
  7. Dolphins- B – Getting DB (Minkah Fitzpatrick) to help that defense was a huge pick.  Don’t know how teams let him fall that far.  With their second pick, they got one of the best athletes in all of the draft with TE (Mike Gesicki).  RB (Kalen Ballage) was kind of a let down in college although he does have the skills and talents its whether he can live up to that hopefully coaching can get him right in the NFL.
  8. Falcons- B – Getting the best WR (Calvin Ridley) at the spot they were picking was huge and could really free up Julio Jones this season from double teams.  Then picked up two big defense helpers in CB (Isaiah Oliver) and DT (Deadrin Senat) that can contribute right away.  What holds their grade down is the rest of there picks are a wash bad picks.
  9. Ravens- B – Everyone thought they would trade back into the first round when QB (Lamar Jackson) fell which I think ended up being a smart choice.  TE (Hayden Hurst) was a decent pickup, but don’t think he held first round value.  Where the Ravens really made a splash in the draft was getting OT (Orlando Brown), TE (Mark Andrews), CB (Anthony Averett), LB (Kenny Young), and S (Deshon Elliott) who all could start or contribute tons in their rookie seasons that is how you build a team for the future.
  10. Bengals- B – Bengals didn’t pull up with and fancy picks, but did seal up that front line with a good C (Billy Price).  More than likely will be looking for a QB the next couple years with Dalton just being mediocre as of late.  They also go great value out of late round picks like DE (Sam Hubbard) and LB (Malik Jefferson) who I cannot believe fell that far in the draft.  They did pick up a late QB (Logan Woodside) who doesn’t look to have any promise as starting but at least a backup for the season.

  11. Colts- B – Again not a flashy draft by the Colts, but built to protect the recently always hurt Luck.  Getting G (Quenton Nelson) who everyone projected by far and away the best lineman in the draft.  Colts picked up a player who I think fell further then I expected and that’s WR (Deon Cain) could be a instant help on that offense.  As always the defensive picks were not the best, hopefully, that changes in the future.
  12. Jaguars- B – Picking a DT (Taven Bryan) wasn’t a need I thought worth filling with their first pick.  Jaguars made up for the draft by picking back to back great picks in WR (D.J. Chark) and S (Ronnie Harrison).  The problem was they also drafted QB (Tanner Lee) who is a joke.
  13. Steelers- C – First pick is a bit of a risk with S (Terrell Edmunds) who I think was a second rounds grade.  Pitt then made up for it with consecutive OKST picks WR (James Washington) and best QB (Mason Rudolph) available. Washington in my mind is the best WR in the draft great route runner and great hands even though Pitt already has tons of good WRs this just makes that offense more explosive.  The defense still needs a lot of work but now with Rudolph backing up Big Ben and QB of the future, I think they can jump the Pats this year to go to the Super Bowl.
  14. Chargers- C – Having S (Derwin James) fall all the way to seventeenth for them was huge.  The only problem besides him they didn’t hit that well in the rest of the draft.  USC LB (Uchenna Nwosu) was taken a little to early since I believe he is a project then more of an immediate impact player.  C (Scott Quessenberry) was a great late pick up for them.  Made a late mistake taking a middle of the pack RB (Justin Jackson) in the Big Ten when could have gotten a true playmaker like Akrum Wadley.
  15. Redskins- C – Started out with their first two picks on fire getting DT (Da’Ron Payne) and RB (Derrius Guice) though Guice, if what was reported is true, he seems to have an attitude problem.  Then it was as if they fell asleep the rest of the draft getting nobody noteworthy for this upcoming season.
  16. Buccaneers- C –  They possibly missed out on an all-time safety in Derwin James to take DT (Vita Vea).  Vita will fit nicely with their D-line so I cant be to mad about the pick it is with their second pick RB (Ronald Jones) where I think they really reached.  Jones couldn’t even be consistent started on a weak USC roster.  Bought into the hype and potential over production.
  17. Patriots- C- – Bill might be losing it after all the controversy and terrible idea of benching Butler in the Super Bowl.  He also never has been the best at drafting taking RB (Sony Michel) that high and when three RB’s on the roster was mind-boggling to me.  OT (Isaiah Wynn) was a good value pick where they got him.  I think he should have got a QB or traded down some more to load up for next years draft of QBs.
  18. Panthers- C- –  With their first two picks they went with high-risk high reward getting WR (D.J. Moore) and CB (Donte Jackson) which both could be huge gets in positions they need.  Their late round picks with LB (Andre Smith) and DT (Kendrick Norton) could pay off well for them.

  19. Cowboys- D+ – Big D got off to a rough start with fans walking out after taking LB (Leighton Vander Esch) with their first-round pick.  There was way better talent left out there it seems to be a bit of a reach to draft him where they did.  Dallas broke through though with there next two picks getting OG (Connor Williams) and WR (Michael Gallup) both valuable picks and could be ready to go after camp.  Players like QB (Mike White), LB (Chris Covington), and WR (Chris Covington) are projects that could take a couple years and end up being contributors on offense and defense but I see at most special teams.
  20. Texans- D+ – The experts are saying they got good value getting S (Justin Reid) 68th overall if so its the only thing they got in this draft.  Which is ok giving up the first round pick last year for Watson looks to be worth it if he comes back even 90 percent of what he was last year.
  21. Raiders- D+ – Shouldn’t even be this high but could get really lucky taking big risks on DE (Arden Key) and DT (Maurice Hurst) who could play and start for them right away if Hurst’s heart is ok and Key stays out of suspension with marijuana.  Taking a development OT (Kolton Miller) wasn’t what us fans in Raidernation were lookings for with our first pick under Gruden.  Another bold move was taking a P (Johnny Townsend) in the fifth round I believe could have gotten him later at a less valuable slot.  One thing that was huge was trading a third round pick we got in the first round for trading down and landing Martavis Bryant and selecting with our last pick WR (Marcell Ateman) who both could have big impacts on offense this year.

  22. Seahawks- D+ – For some reason this year was the draft to reach for punters like Seattle getting P (Michael Dickson) in the fifth round mind blown.  Taking RB (Rashaad Penny) with their first pick was up there with one of the worst picks in this year’s draft.  The lone bright spot for them and potential big-play guy LB (Shaquem Griffin) was taken with the 6th round pick.  This isn’t a feel-good response for me I really think that he has great talent and playmaking abilities being paired with his brother is even bigger for his development.  Pete needs a big year with talk of the team falling apart and his deciding to never put an O-line around Wilson.
  23. Rams- D+ – They gave up this year’s first pick for Cooks which is a great investment considering there wasn’t a WR better than him in this year’s draft.  Notable picks out of the many they had are LB (Ogbonnia Okoronkwo), C (Brian Allen), and LB (Trevon Young).  Okoronkwo was a great value pick with tons of talent can come in right away and make plays.  Allen is a nice safe add to that O-line that can be valuable for years.  OT (Joseph Noteboom) is a project that they are hoping Whitworth can help develop.
  24. 49ers- D –  Getting OT (Mike McGlinchey) is a solid pick protecting Jimmy G.  I felt they needed a playmaker to help him out with lots of lineman in free agency, but can’t complain about protecting him.  Lynch’s first draft was a golden one this second not so much WR (Dante Pettis) was a big reach for a special teams player.  Niners left a lot of solid WR on the board when going Pettis here and could have probably gotten him later in the draft.
  25. Giants- D – Holding the second overall pick with Darnold still available equaled the best time to ever trade out in a draft instead the GMEN went with a terrible value pick in RB (Saquon Barkley).  Don’t get me wrong I think Barkley can be a good back in the NFL, but I see little to no value in staying in that spot and taking him there.  OG (Will Hernandez) was the best pickup for them since they need to fortify that line if they are going to play immobile Eli Manning.  LB (Lorenzo Carter) could be a great pickup he was overshadowed by Smith at Georgia and could step in a play right away.  The GMEN wasted another pick with QB (Kyle Lauletta) when there was far better talent out there for QB yet in the draft.  Looks like the Giants didn’t get the best GM for the job.
  26. Chiefs- D- – Not having a first-round pick hurt a lot this year.  The Chiefs failed to draft a single player who can make an immediate impact that isn’t a project.  Make things worse they drafted the Raiders GMs son with their last pick.

  27. Eagles- D- – I know this is a little harsh again considering they didn’t have a first-round pick.  The problem is they took TE (Dallas Goedert) when there was better talent at TE left in the draft.  The only other person they drafted who could maybe get a little playing time is DE (Josh Sweat) even though they already have a million defensive lineman.  Great free agency terrible draft.
  28. Vikings- D- – Feels like they jumped the gun a little early on CB (Mike Hughes) and left better CB on the board but time will tell.  CB is one of the hardest positions to evaluate in the NFL.  After the first pick, it feels like the whole rest of the draft they were reaching and hoping not hitting on anything great.  I know they have had kicking trouble but to get a K (Daniel Carlson) in the fifth round is just crazy to me.  Vikings fans don’t get too comfortable if keep drafting like this in the future.
  29. Lions- D- – Hopefully Matt can figure out free agency better then he did his first draft, then again he did learn from Bill who was never a great drafter.  A team desperate for a good running back went with C (Frank Ragnow) with their first pick and left lots of good RB talent on the board.  They did take RB (Kerryon Johnson) with there second pick so seems they panicked could have definitely held off until the third round.  DT (Da’Shawn Hand) will probably be their most impactful player drafted. With their last pick in the drafted they took RB (Nick Dawden) I mean what were they thinking?
  30. Bills- D- – If I am going, to be honest here QB (Josh Allen) is a bust and the only pick they got that could hold some future value is LB (Tremaine Edmunds).  Possibly WR (Austin Proehl) could contribute to the team, but all and all Bills missed out big time.
  31. Saints- F – Trading up in the first-round and taking DE (Marcus Davenport) was not a wise choice giving up that much for a DE just holds no value in football.  Lamar Jackson was sitting there primed to be a perfect compliment to Payton when Brees leave in a couple years and they blew it.  WR (Tre’Quan Smith) might be an impact player to watch out for next year that is the only person they got in this draft worth anything and now trading away next years first pick Saints are in some real trouble.
  32. Browns- F –  Not did they only mess up their first pick in QB (Baker Mayfield) but followed it up with an even bigger mistake in taking CB (Denzel Ward) over Bradley Chubb who might have been the best overall player in the draft.  Something they did get right was taking RB (Nick Chubb) in the second round before injuries he was a great player lets hope he can get back to that form.  WR (Antonio Callaway) is a great talent who has lots of off the field issues which might not make the Browns the best fit for the guy.  All in all, they probably had one of the worst drafts I have ever seen.
