Once again the Dallas Cowboys are in the news. No matter what they do it seems to attract way more attention than it would with another team. The team announced on Thursday that they have reached a extension agreement with cornerback Orlando Scandrick. The extension is worth 9.5 million dollars and brings Scandrick up to a five year deal worth right at 20 million dollars. This deal is basically the team showing Scandrick that they will pay him what he has earned.

Scandrick has well overplayed his current contract, and this new deal is extremely well deserved. Scandrick became the best player and leader on a defense that was much better than originally advertised. Scandrick is set to make only 1.5 million dollars in 2015,and three million dollars in 2016 through 2018. The extension will be for 9.5 million dollars in 2019. Say what you want about Jerry Jones, but he takes care of his own.

Orlando will not be alone this year leading the defense. Sean Lee is poised to return, and will hopefully make a big impact on the Cowboys defense. Lee will more than likely be the primary leader, while Scandrick takes on the crucial role of teacher. Scandrick will soon become the mentor for first round draft pick Byron Jones. Scandrick can set Jones on a great path toward success with the Dallas Cowboys. Scandy is here to stay in Dallas. I’m sure that makes the fans happy and even more ready for the season to start!
