Colts lock up T.Y. Hilton on 5-year extension

The Indianapolis Colts made the first move to lock up there young cast of stars by handing T.Y. Hilton a whopping but (well deserved) 5-year $65 million extension with $39 million in guarantees, Hilton was entering the final year of his original deal prior to this extension, the Colts will hang onto Hilton through 2020.

T.Y. Hilton is coming off a very strong, productive 2014-15 season accumulating 1,345 yards on 214 interceptions.

Many might argue it was foolish of the Colts to lock up there number one pass catcher instead of their number one GUY in Andrew Luck, but certainty one way to keep your quarterback happy and content is to make sure his favorite target sticks around just as long as he does.

“It’s a great day for the Indianapolis Colts, T.Y. Hilton and his family,” Indy GM Ryan Grigson said in a team statement. “We’re extremely happy as an organization to ensure that T.Y. will continue to be a part of our journey for many years to come. His daily excellence on and off the field is a shining example of an individual striving for greatness and what it truly means to be a Colt.”

Agent Drew Rosenhaus and GM Hilton worked vigorously through the night with Colts officials to come to a deal.  The club announced they had come to terms early this morning.

Hilton will speak with reporters after the team’s walkthrough this morning in Anderson.

Hilton was the one who I thought would get away from the Colts.

It was absolutely huge for the Colts to get this deal done with T.Y. Hilton, a wide receiver who has certaintly earned every penny of this deal will be a top target for Luck in the future.   Next up for the Colts is finding a good contract for Andrew Luck.
