BREAKING: D-Generation X Headline 2019 WWE Hall of Fame

ESPN broke the news at noon eastern today that D-Generation X will headline the WWEs 2019 Hall of Fame class in 7 weeks, the night before WrestleMania.

Both incarnations will be inducted, with all 6 of the main members being honored at the ceremony: Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Billy Gunn, The Road Dogg, X-Pac and Chyna.

The New Age Outlaws (Billy Gunn and The Road Dogg) won a total of 5 tag team championships together in the WWF, while X-Pac won both the Intercontinental Championship and European Championship during the group’s tenure. Triple H, 13 time champion who will likely go in as a solo competitor later on, is the company CEO and used the group as a platform to get to the main event level. Shawn Michaels was inducted as a solo star in 2011, making him only the 2nd superstar to be inducted twice (Ric Flair).

The most interesting note of the group is that Chyna is included. Chyna broke many boundaries for women in Professional Wrestling, including winning male championships and competing in a King of the Ring tournament. With her controversial movies made about the company (depicting the owner having sex with his kids) and her previous real-life relationship with Triple H, it was a tumultuous relationship towards the end of Chyna’s life. She passed away in 2016. The fans, however, have continued to rally for her induction. She grew up in Rochester, near where the ceremony is taking place.

Gunn is interesting and noteworthy because of the role he currently has with AEW as a producer.

Shawn and Triple H pushed the envelope in the 1990s, and ushered in the Attitude Era. When Shawn had his premature retirement, the Outlaws and X-Pac replaced him and carried it to greater heights. The original DX (with the exception of Chyna) was reformed in the mid-2000s to cement their legacy.
