Villarreal is a huge part of the Detroit Tigers bullpen, but Friday he got a text from his mom about an attempted robbery that took place at the family home in Venezuela.

Villarreal told the Detroit Free Press ” I was scared and mad to say the least, but what could I do?”

A neighbor alerted the police after she saw suspicious activity. Villarreal said “Thank god for the neighbor or anything could’ve been alot worse.” Venezuela authorities tell Villarreal they have no reason for the robbery attempt.

Villarreal pitched today in the Houston and Detroit game. When asked if he thought about it he said “No, When I step on the mound I want to focus all my attention on the batter.”  When asked if his family was targeted because of him being a professional baseball player he said “No I don’t think the robbers knew me.”  Villarreal’s family is coming to his Florida home to stay. He said ” They’re not going back there.”
