Blackhawks Hot Start Could Setup A Collapse in the End

The Chicago Blackhawks are the hottest team in the NHL right now, but there is a reason to panic later in the NHL Season. Chicago will make the playoffs and most likely will win the central division, but there are some reasons of doubt for the Blackhawks.

Since 2000 only three teams have won the President’s Trophy and Stanley Cup in the same season, The Colorado Avalanche in 2001 and the Detroit Red Wings have done it twice in 2002 and 2008. The 1979-80 Philadelphia Flyers have the longest point steak record in the NHL with 35, but they lost in the Stanley Cup Finals.

TSN asked NHL Hall of Famer Bobby Clarke “Can the Chicago Blackhawks get it done?” Clarke responded, “Yes, but if I’m a Chicago fan you have reason to concern the NHL playoffs are about who is hot at the end, and back when I played it wasn’t like that. Goalies weren’t like today’s. In today’s NHL you face a hot goalie your playoff run could come to an end.” He went on to say “Prime example, look at Vancouver. They were talented, played real well, but one player stole that series and the Stanley Cup.”  He brings up a valid point. Look at the past five Stanley Cup Champion’s goalies. Osgood, Fleury, Niemi, Thomas and Quick, all of them were hot to begin the Playoffs and carried their respective teams to the Stanley Cup.

The NHL is so wide open that in a seven-game series anything can happen. I believe the Blackhawks are early favorites to win the Stanley Cup, but let’s not crown them already with still so much left to play in this NHL season.
