AP Coach of the year: Bruce Arians

Former interim Colts head coach Bruce Arians won the AP Coach of the year award.  He is the first interim coach to have been awarded this. While Chuck Pagano was out sick with being diagnosed with leukemia, Arians filled in and went 9-3 as interim head coach also with a rookie quarterback. This is well deserved considering the situation he came into.

Offensive Rookie of the year: Robert Griffin III

Robert Griffin beat out two other sensational rookie quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Andrew Luck for this award. RGIII led the Washington Redskins to their first NFC title in 13 years. RGIII got 29 votes from a panel of 50 media members across the country. Next was Luck with 11 and Wilson with 10. This in my opinion is the correct choice.

Defensive Rookie of the year: Luke Kuechly

Linebacker, Luke Kuechly led the whole NFL in tackles with 164 tackles. He helped take the Panthers defense from 24th to 10th in the NFL.  He earned 28 votes out of the 50 media members. That out did every other rookie by a whole bunch. He is the second Panther to ever receive this award. The only other one is Julius Peppers in 2002.

Offensive player of the year: Adrian Peterson

Peterson wins this award one year after having major knee surgery.  He rushed for 2,097 yards which is 9 yards short of Eric Dickerson’s record. He easily won the voting by a landslide. He helped lead the Vikings to a wild card berth and a huge improvement in their record. This is easily the correct choice for this award.

Defensive player of the year: J.J Watt

The NFL’s sack leader with 20 and half sacks received 49 votes out of the 50. Von Miller received the other vote. He also forced 4 fumbles. He led the Texans to their second straight AFC South title. He also blocked a stunning 16 passes. This is no doubt the most obvious choice.

Comeback player of the year: Peyton Manning

He came back from nine neck surgeries and led the Broncos to a 13-3 record.  He easily did out Adrian Peterson in the voting. This could have gone either way: Peterson or Manning? Leave in the comments who you believe should have won

Most Valuable Player Award: Adrian Peterson

Peterson’s sensational season after coming back from serious knee surgery earned him the MVP award. He also won the offensive player of the year award. He received 30 and a half votes out of 50. He is the first running back too win this award since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2006. He averaged 6 yards a carry and had 12 touchdowns.
