Meet Norwegian wonder-kid, Martin Odegaard, who has stole the soccer spotlight and has become according to many analysts “The Next Big Thing”. With the large status, comes huge expectations. Here are 5 things you need to know about the 16 year old midfielder.

#1-Insane Skills: After confirming the signing of Odegaard, Real Madrid posted a video of his elite skills. These skills? Would probably make someone like Cristiano Ronaldo shiver because these skills are similar to those of Ronaldinho.

#2- Like father like son: It happens a lot of times, a huge star comes into the limelight as a second-generation player. Oldegaard is no different — his father Hans Erik Odegaard played professionally as a center midfielder and is currently the Real Madrid youth coach (where Martin is expected to begin his Real Madrid career at).

#3-Heir to Ronaldo?: Real Madrid will need someone to replace their Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo when he hangs up the cleats. They may have found it in this ‘wonder-kid’ though. Cristiano Ronaldo seems to also agree with this as he had some words to say to the 16 year old. “In a couple of years I will stop scoring as many goals and you need to take over,” was the message from Ronaldo to Odegaard. Definitely a daunting task for anyone.

#4-International record breaker: At age 15, Martin Odegaard broke a 31-year European record and become the youngest to score a goal in a European Championship qualifier when he came on as a sub and netted a goal against Bulgaria in Oslo last October. The previous record was held by Sigurdur Jonsson (Iceland).

#5-A hot commodity for teams: Before signing to Real Madrid, more than 30 clubs around the world inquired about Odegaard. Of those clubs were Liverpool (his favorite club), Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

There were as many as 30 scouts to watch him perform for his former club Stromsgodset.

Clearly Martin Odegaard has a lot to prove if he wants to make it big. A promising prospect for sure and could turn even more heads when he dons the gold and white of Real Madrid.
