The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Boston Red Sox 3-0 this evening at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.

“Hot” doesn’t even begin to describe this Rays team. Tampa Bay is the best team in MLB right now. The continued their dominance tonight against division rival Boston. Jeremy Hellickson made his 2nd start of the season tonight for the Rays. He pitched quite well, shutting out the Sox into the 5th inning, but Joe Maddon had a quick hook, and removed the young right hander after he ran into some trouble in the 5th. Hellickson struck out 5 over 4 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. Matt Joyce got the Rays on the board in the 2nd with an RBI single, scoring Desmond Jennings. Kevin Kiermaier followed suit with an RBI knock of his own in the 4th, and the Rays had a 2-0 lead. John Lackey hurled an effective 7 innings for Boston, but had some bad luck go his way. Ben Zobrist gave Tampa Bay some insurance with a solo shot in the 7th. Jake McGee proceeded to set the Sox down 1-2-3 in the 9th, and the Rays won, 3-0.
