The Los Angeles Kings defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 6-2 Wednesday night at United Center. The Hawks came out with a blazing start, with goals from Nick Leddy and Ben Smith, and for the first 30 minutes of the game, Chicago controlled the flow of the game and had total control. However, one thing you’ll learn if you haven’t already is that you never count out the LA Kings.
At the 18:14 mark of the second period, Kings forward Justin Williams slipped the puck behind Blackhawks goaltender Cory Crawford off of a great pass from Kings forward Mike Richards. Williams goal was the turning point of the game, and the Kings never looked back from there. Jake Muzzin and Tyler Toffoli added a goal each and Jeff Carter scored 3 to give him the hat trick.
The Kings comeback was sparked by Williams goal, but also was helped by the Blackhawks sloppy play. Turnovers in the defensive third, and unneeded penalties such as the too many men on the ice minor penalty that led to the Jake Muzzin goal, which ended up being the game winner. The Hawks will look to bounce back in game three as the series shifts to Los Angeles tied at 1-1.
