Kings eradicate Ducks, advance to western conference finals
The Los Angeles Kings have advanced to the Western Conference finals, after a commanding 6-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks. The Kings advance to their third western conference final in three years, and once again eliminate the ducks from the playoffs. Ducks head coach Bruch Boudreau said during an on the bench interview, “They are working harder, and playing harder then us.” This summed up the entire game, in which the Kings dominated from the opening face-off.
The game started with five consecutive goals from the Kings, starting with a hard working goal in the goal mouth from Justin Williams, who has scored six career game 7 goals. Jeff Carter scored on a nice backhanded shot, after he muscled away Ducks defenseman Humpus Lindholm and beat goaltender John Gibson. Forward Mike Richards scored his second goal of the post season after deflecting a shot from defenseman Dwight King. Anze Kopitar and Marian Gaborik, who leads the NHL playoffs in goal scoring with nine, scored the forth and fifth goals for the Kings. Kyle Palmieri and birthday boy Corey Perry, who turned 29 on this day, scored for the Ducks. Tanner Pearson added the dagger to the already forsaken ducks off a nice pass from Carter.
The Ducks have been eliminated from the playoffs, and in what is thought to be his final NHL game, Teemu Selanne will end his career known as one of the NHL’s greatest players. Selanne began his career as the tenth overall pick by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1988 NHL entry draft. He finishes his career with 1,451 games played, 684 goals, and 773 assists, which ranks him fifteenth all time in points scored with 1457.
The Kings will meet the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference finals.
