Today was a busy day of roster moves for the Orioles as they activated Chris Davis from the DL after he had healed from an oblique injury. Facing a crunch to remove someone from the 25-man roster, the Orioles opted to go ahead and place Matt Wieters on the 15-day DL due to continuing soreness in his throwing elbow.
Additionally, following today’s loss to the Astros, the Orioles optioned reliever T. J. McFarland to AAA Norfolk and, according to MASNSports.com’s Roch Kubatko, will make a corresponding roster move tomorrow. Badly in need of an extra right-handed reliever, McFarland became expendable. The Orioles could choose to call up Josh Stinson, who will need to be placed on the 40-man roster, or they can call up Steve Johnson, who hasn’t pitched since Thursday.
