Wade Phillips was recently fired as defensive coordinator by the Houston Texans. Phillips has been the Texans DC since 2011 after the Texans finished 30’th in the league in total defense. Phillips’ presence made an immediate impact as the next year he led the Texans to the #2 spot in the NFL in total defense.
Phillips then followed up the next two years finishing 7th in the NFL in total defense. When you look at these stats it would appear to be a surprise that he was fired. There seems to be no reason for the firing, except for the fact that the team went 2-14. Despite the record the defense was 7’th in the league and it would appear that he was the only part of the team worth keeping. Phillips figures to land another job pretty soon as he did nothing to deserve the firing. Whoever he lands with we wish him the best of luck and whoever lands him will most likely see an immediate improvement in the defense similar to Houston in 2011.
