Redskins Considering Firing Mike Shanahan
Washington, DC - According to the Washington Post, the Washington Redskins are seriously considering firing head coach Mike Shanahan. The expectations is that they will fire him “with cause” which would take Washington off the hook for the remainder of his contract. Rumors swirling in the Redskins’ organization are that the ‘Skins will end up firing Shanahan with or without cause, and are ready to move on from this era.
The Redskins could contend that the news that Shanahan nearly left the Redskins last season was leaked by the coach himself. It is true that Shanahan mentioned that fact before anyone else knew about it, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him lose the rest of the money on his contract due to those comments that he made.
Washington is currently sitting at 3-10 and their season is done. They are coming off of a season last year where they made the playoffs, and there were high expectations for this season which have turned out to be the exact opposite results. The Redskins’ front office is fed up with the way that the team has played this season and they view Shanahan as one of the main reasons why this season has been a disaster.
There are no reports about his chances of being fired just yet, but the Washington Post believes he’ll be gone no matter what. We can’t confirm or deny those reports, but it’s certainly something to keep an eye on. The Redskins are in bad shape heading into the offseason, but they do have the necessary talent to come back next season and make some noise in the NFC East.
