Mets “Heavily” in Talks with Bronson Arroyo

New York, NY - According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, the New York Mets and Bronson Arroyo are in serious discussions about a contract. The Mets have made finding starting pitching a priority this offseason, and Arroyo would certainly be a solid pickup. This obviously isn’t the caliber of pitcher that many were expecting them to target, but he is extremely solid every time he’s on the mound.

Last season with the Cincinnati Reds, Arroyo went 14-12 with a 3.79 ERA and 124 strikeouts. Those numbers aren’t all that impressive, but it does show that he’s an extremely consistent, solid pitcher. New York’s rotation has been struggling for the last few years with consistency, so the Arroyo signing would be a very nice change of pace for them.

The Mets and Arroyo will sit down face-to-face in the near future to work on the deal, so that could be when more news comes out about this possibility. There have been no reports about what kind of contract the two sides might be looking at, but he’s not going to come at a cheap price. He’s perhaps the best inning eater on the free agent market as a starting pitcher, which makes him a lot more valuable.

There are other suitors for Arroyo’s services as well that have been rumored this offseason. The Minnesota Twins are one of the teams that have been very open with their interest in Arroyo, but the two sides haven’t gotten too deep into discussions. Don’t be surprised to see Arroyo sign with his new team within the next week or two.
