Detroit, MI - The Detroit Tigers are looking to make some big moves this offseason and one that could surprise quite a few people would involve trading star pitcher Max Scherzer. That being said, this isn’t something that is necessarily expected, but it is a possibility. Scherzer was named the AL’s Cy Young award winner for this past season.
Three teams who have been linked to Scherzer are the New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and Cleveland Indians. All three teams need veteran starting pitching help and would be more than capable of making a postseason run with an ace like Scherzer in their rotation. The asking price is expected to be very steep, but teams will be willing to give the asking price for the talent that they would receive in return.
Scherzer was able to win 21 games for the Detroit Tigers this past season and played the best season of his career. Many don’t expect him to repeat the same numbers next year, but there’s no denying his talent and ability to win baseball games. He posted a 2.90 ERA and struck out 290 batters.
The Tigers will likely want two top prospects in return for Max Scherzer in any deal that they make. That being said, many teams reportedly view him as being worth that amount and possibly a little bit more. It will be interesting to watch and see what happens with this situation as the offseason continues to move forward.
