Chicago Cubs prospect Dustin Geiger took the time to do an exclusive interview with me for Pro Sports Extra. He is a first basemen in the Cubs organization and has a lot of talent. Hope you enjoy the read!
Q. Thanks for doing this interview Dustin, how are you doing?
A. Very well thank you. Trying to enjoy the offseason the best I can.
Q. What have you been working on so far this offseason?
A. Mostly focusing on getting my body to 100% and just overall getting bigger, faster, and stronger.
Q. Where do you see yourself in five years? What are your goals?
A. I would love to be an every day guy up in the big leagues. It has been a life long goal of mine and am very blessed just to be at this level of the game already! I’m just going to keep controlling what I can and go from there.
Q. Do you know any current MLB players? Are you close with any other minor leaguers?
A. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet quite a few big leaguers and I try to pick their brain as often as possible. I’ve also made many friends across many different organizations in my time in pro ball. A close friend of mine in the Cubs organization would have to be Anthony Giansanti who has helped me become the ball player/person I am today since we started playing in 2010.
Q. As far as this season, what are your expectations?
A. I’m hoping to have another healthy full season. Adding another championship to my resume would be nice as well.
Q. Do you have a current MLB player that you would compare your game to?
A. Not any one player directly. I don’t try to model my game after anyone. I just try to go out every day and work my butt off and hopefully good things will happen.
Q. What areas of your game do you think need the most improvement?
A. I’d like to get faster and it’s always nice to cut down on strikeouts and draw more walks.
Q. What do you enjoy doing in your free time off the diamond?
A. This offseason I really got into eating healthy and cooking all my meals. Come to find out I really enjoy cooking and being in the kitchen.
Q. What advice would you give to a young player with MLB dreams?
A. Set goals to reach along the way to hopefully making it to the MLB. Always work hard knowing that there are others out there who have the same dream as you and there are only a select few who can make it to the final goal.
Q. What would you like to say to fans of the Chicago Cubs? Any message you’d like to send out?
A. I’d like to thank them for always being supportive. Also let them know we have a bunch of great players/guys in the organization who will hopefully be able to make an impact in the future.
We hope that you enjoyed the interview and we always welcome comments! Thanks for reading.
