Many people would say Alex Smith has received a raw deal in his career with San Francisco. First he had to deal with the mistreatment from Mike Singletary, then he finally seemed to be moving past it all under Jim Harbaugh until Colin Kapernick came to the NFL. Smith was leading the 49ers to a great season before getting a concussion in their first match up against the St. Louis Rams. This gave Kapernick a chance to play and he never looked back.
We have to assume with Kapernick leading his team to a super bowl appearance, that Alex Smith’s time in San Fransisco is over. Well he is better than a back up so he is expected to request a trade as soon as the off-season officially begins. There are several teams in need of a experienced quarterback and Smith could fit the bill in a number of places. The Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, or even the New York Jets are all serious possibilities, but the one that sticks out the most is the division rival Arizona Cardinals.
The Cardinals have a solid defense and a all pro wide receiver in Larry Fitzgerald all they really need is a good quarterback. This would give Smith the chance to play his old team twice and possibly be a threat in the NFC. Arizona really needs to consider this as Larry Fitzgerald is starting to become restless on a team that is not contending nor helping him put up the stats he deserves and can produce. Alex Smith’s best bet would be Arizona.
