2012 Big 12 Bowl Predictions

by Logan Benson | Posted on Saturday, December 8th, 2012

Bowl season is finally here and the Big 12 sent a record 9/10 teams to the post-season this year.

Of these teams 2 of them have 10 wins. These teams are Kansas State, and Oklahoma. Kansas State will be facing Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl and Oklahoma will be facing Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl.

Next on the list is 3rd place Texas. Texas had a season of up’s and down’s. One week they were great and one week they were not. The Longhorns will face Oregon State in the Alamo Bowl.

Then we have 5, 7-5 teams next. These teams are Oklahoma State, Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech, and West Virginia. Oklahoma State will face Purdue in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Baylor will face UCLA in the Holiday Bowl. TCU will face Michigan State in the Buffalo Wild Wing’s Bowl. Texas Tech will face Minnesota in the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas. West Virginia will face Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl.

Last on the list is the Iowa State Cyclones. This is the only 6-6 team in the Big 12 this season and they will face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the Liberty Bowl.

Below is the 2012-2013 predictions for the bowl games being played this season.

Baylor-52 ~ UCLA-34

This year Baylor was the best offensive team in the country. This will not stop anytime soon. Baylor has been putting up video game numbers all season and this is a perfect example of a team that never quits. At one point this season Baylor was 3-4 and struggling to even win games. Then they came across the national championship contender Kansas State and upset them in Waco. This not only sparked the Baylor season but sparked them all the way to the Holiday Bowl. Baylor will not let this break effect them and they will start where they left off. UCLA has not faced an offense other than Oregon this good all year. Baylor wins handily.

Minnesota-17 ~ Texas Tech-56

This will be dominated by the Red Raiders all the way. Not only will this be the biggest game from Doege all year, he will break Texas Bowl records. Minnesota cannot stop the Red Raiders even though Tommy Tuberville left the team. Texas Tech is just that good and they will not lighten up on the Gophers. Texas Tech blows out the Gophers and starts the NEW bowl streak.

West Virginia-52 ~ Syracuse-34

West Virginia started this season with National Championship hopes. This season has been everything short of National Championship hopes. West Virginia is ticked about this whole season and will revenge that with a bowl victory, the first in the Big 12. The Mountaineer team is talented, but without a defense this score could easily be flipped around. I think the improving defense will shop up and WVU will finally look good this season.

Texas-24 ~ Oregon State- 31

Oregon State has been a huge surprise all season. Texas has been disappointing all year long. Texas does not have the QB, Defense, to compete with the Beavers. Start the “Fire Mack Brown” Facebook pages now because he will be gone after this game. Oregon State not only wins, but forces Mack Brown to finally be fired.

TCU-14 ~Michigan State-10

Battle of the defenses?? Yes, the Big 12 does have some defense and that comes from Fort Worth. Michigan State also has a very good defense and a very good running back in Levon Bell. I believe this will come down to the final quarter but TCU and Gary Patterson being who they are pull away with a late TD and win the first bowl game being a member of the Big 12. TCU wins close!

Iowa State-24 ~Tulsa-31

Too many people have forgot about this matchup in which Iowa State blew out the Hurricanes earlier this season. Tulsa just came off of a CUSA championship and Iowa State just came off of tons of losses. Paul Rhoads is the second best coach in the conference. Iowa State is not talented, but Rhoads makes them talented. I think the rematch will go the Hurricanes way this time and Tulsa will finish the best season in school history with a bowl victory. Tulsa win by a TD.

Purdue-21 ~ Oklahoma State-41

OKST is good. Hands down good. Purdue sucks, but did enough to make a bowl game? Yes, the Big 10 was the worst major conference this year. Minnesota? Purdue? Really? Purdue does deserve a bowl, but will not be able to compete with the Cowboys. Mike Gundy and the Boys win big!

Oregon-42 ~ Kansas State-34

A lot of people need to understand this! The last time the Wildcats faced a potent offense like Oregon they lost (Baylor). I really believe that KSU will keep this closer than some people believe but the offense of Oregon will  prevail…again. I think UO wins by 8.

Texas A&M-34 ~ Oklahoma-24

Guess what??? MANZIEL IS THE HEISMAN WINNER. Not only will this propel this team to victory but Manziel will show why he deserved to win this Heisman. Texas A&M goes down early but Johnny Football brings them back and beats up on OU to win by 10. A&M and Johnny Football WIN!

Big 12 Bowl Record

5-4
