Blue Jackets Try to Honor Nash Trade Request

The Columbus Blue Jackets are working to trade Rick Nash, after he asked the team midway through last season that he wanted to be traded.
However, Columbus general manager Scott Howson isn’t saying much about his quest to trade the captain. “We are working very hard” is really all he had to say right now on the matter. He is not facing any deadline to make a deal, but is seeking a couple of top young NHL-ready players with a high draft pick in return for Nash. Nash should be a prized commodity, it’s just whether teams want to meet the asking price.
Nash was the Blue Jackets leader in most offensive categories. He is one of only four players to score at least 30 goals in each of the past five seasons (Calgary’s Jarome Inginia, New Jersey’s Ilya Kovalchuk, and Washington’s Alex Ovechkin are the others). Nash has also won the 2009 NHL Foundation Player Award for his commitment and service to charities.
Nash scored 30 goals and had 29 assists this season, but Columbus was by far the worst team in the NHL this last season. He has four years remaining on his contract with a salary cap hit of $ 7.8 million. Among the reported teams interested in the 6-foot-4, 219 pound forward are, the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, Carolina Hurricanes and the Philadelphia Flyers.
