#13 La Salle shocks #4 Kansas State; 63-61
#13 La Salle had an 18 point advantage at halftime, and held off a ferocious comeback by #4 Kansas State Friday afternoon.
Jarrel Wright made three free throws in the final moments of the game, and the team was happy with the way they played defense.
“Every timeout, every time we came in, coach was riding us on defense,” said Ramon Galloway who finished with 19 points for La Salle. “We had a good margin, and they came back and actually took the lead. We had to stick together, dig down deep and get some stops.”
The Warriors played excellent defense in the final 5:00 minutes of the game, holding the Wildcats to just one point which came from the free throw line with 2:25 remaining.
Jarrel Wright finished the game with 21 points for La Salle, he made two clutch free throws to give La Salle a 62-61 lead with only .30 seconds remaining in the game.
“They made the plays down the stretch, and we didn’t,” said Kansas State coach Bruce Weber.
Sam Mills finished with 13 points for La Salle. Henriquez and Shane Southwell scored 17 points a piece for Kansas State who finishes their season (27-8).
Senior guard Rodney McGruder finished his Wildcat career with 12 points.
“It’s the worst feeling in the world,” he said “It’s the last time I’ll play in a Kansas State uniform and the last time I’ll be on a team with some of the teammates I have now. It just hurts to go out the way we did.”
#13 La Salle will play #12 Mississippi, who defeated #5 Wisconsin 57-46 earlier Friday afternoon.
